//WORK IN PROGRESS
Monday July 12, 2010, 22:19

I got
out the power mixer and flung some paint around. I'm still busy layering
up the four paintings, but two are just about ready to sand down and
tear into. I'd like to have them finished before I leave for Berlin on
the 29th.

Un-walkable
Tuesday June 22, 2010, 10:31

I've
got four paintings I'm working on right now. It's a slow process...
I've been layering them up for a month, and they're still nowhere near
ready to have their surfaces worked. Maybe in a few weeks, but for now
they're still too thin. With all the paintings I'm working on
simultaneously, as well as the paper I'm prepping for future layers, my
studio is getting pretty difficult to walk around in.

Black & Blue
Sunday August 9, 2009, 19:09

I tore into a new one this afternoon, and now I'm working on the little details: cleaning off the exposed paper, touching it up with paint in some places, and making additional rips in others. br>

A hard wall
Wednesday July 22, 2009, 09:24
I ripped open a painting last night despite the fact that it didn't
feel completely dry, and in retrospect I really should have waited
another couple days.
The surface looks confused and chaotic, and I'm not feeling the color
combinations so much. It sucks to hit a wall, a stumbling block.
I'm going to have to sit for a long time and look at it. I have some ideas, but I need to sort it all out in my head.
I'm leaning towards layering over the current surface and using it as a
"floor" to tear back down to; It's not an awful surface, it's just not
the painting I want it to be yet - it's not finished. br>

Dark Nancy II

Tore the yellow piece open tonight. Now I'm going to put down a new tarp...the old one has so many holes in it that it's no longer very effective at keeping stray paint off the floor.

The current piece
Tuesday July 14, 2009, 11:07

Above, just before I tore into the piece, and below, some of the surface after I'd worked on it for a couple hours.

When the piece is finished I plan to seal it with acrylic gel medium. br>

Menage a 3
Monday July 6, 2009, 20:54

I'm currently working on three pieces. The white painting should be ready to be ripped open tomorrow; I restricted the color pallet in it to black & white with a couple layers of fluorescent red thrown in.

Printing with paint
Friday May 22, 2009, 00:44

This morning I built & gesso-ed two new canvases, and tonight I laid down the first layer of paint and paper, and imprinted dozens of strips for future use. br>

Removing the paper haze

paint, paper & asphalt on canvas
Last night I discovered a technique whereby I can remove the residual paper
from the surface of the canvas without damaging the layers of paint
below.
This is a vast improvement over using oil to render the paper
transparent, and the colors are far brighter than I've been able to get
them in the past. I took the above photo this morning and you can see
where the top and left side have been cleaned. I've spent the night
working away at it and am dead tired. Going to bed now; I'll post a
photo in the morning of the fully cleaned surface. br>
